As an artist and a human being, standing alone teaches us how to live with others and with ourselves. This is life's most important lesson and ultimate test.

At times I'd find myself in contemplation of a certain feeling of hopelessness and I guess this is how I'd portray this frustration inside of me that I can't seem to shake off.

My "now" revolves around parenting. The fu dogs, gongshi, and lotuses are the main elements. Fu dogs represent me and my wife as protectors of our children, gongshi stands for wisdom, and the blooming lotuses symbolize our strive to rise amidst the uncertainties, fears and anxiety.

There are times that we feel like that the world has been progressing in their view and treatment of the LGBTQIA+. But because of lack of awareness, some people still think that these individuals are inferior. We continue to fight and dream of the day that the LGBTQIA+ can stand tall, be understood, and no longer need to explain who they really are.

Even the faintest light can make a difference in the thickest darkness, hold up that remaining light.

It is argued that the world runs on greed and it is essential to our survival. But the King of Kings knows no satisfaction. Even when he can settle with what he has he wants more. These collapsing economies, poverty and armed conflicts, are the outcome of greed overcoming a man's will to do good, and give in to the complexity of human nature.

The native people of the Philippine Islands are often confined to history books. This is a tribute to the islanders who still bear our shared past, human vessels of Philippine identity—even in a changing world.

"Pagod, takot, at hindi sigurado ... pero hindi tumitigil at hinding hindi titigil."

When you're working on your dreams and goals, you know they are not free and it won't be easy. Late nights and early mornings, self-doubt, fatigue, isolation; being misunderstood, broke, but always going over and above. There's so much pressure to get things done. You struggle and fight like hell, are afraid, but do it anyway. You take risks and you never stopp. This is the cost of ambition.

Sira na ang aking tsinelas,
Napatid na ang isa.
Wala akong mahanap na katulad niya,
Ngunit madaming tambak na sapatos na gamit na.

Pilit kong pinagkakasya bawat-isa,
Subalit sadyang malalaki ang sukat nila.
Nakailang subok na ako...
Pero tila gamit ito ng matatanda na.

Bahala na!
Baka mapilitan akong isuot itong isa.
Mahalaga may magamit lang akong pang sapin sa paa.

It can be difficult, where we are now. But knowing the cause of the situation makes the burden lighter. Keep to your principles at all times, and leave the rest to nature.

I am Still Living

Aiya Balingit

It has been tough facing what has been happening here and around the world in the recent years.

We lament for days and lives taken from us, our rights, and freedom.

But even with clipped wings we still cling to hope and fight.

There’s a saying - “to be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid.” Sometimes we are presented with experience after experience where life seems to crumble. But as we learn to humble ourselves and deflate the ego, we begin to sense a higher purpose. The destruction of the old and the re-birth of the new. We all can start all over again.

Disguised in a joyful and bright color palette is a feeling of emptiness. Emptiness that is brought out by the current events of this world, as reflected by the elements in the abanicos.

As creatives, I think it's our social responsibility to be the child in a world of income fixated adults.

Creativity and hope are in its peak when we were young.
Imagination without boundaries.

And it will be a tragedy when we let our inner child grow up.

And today, and at this moment, If we can't inspire or give hope, then what's the point?

Wherever or whenever Filipinos find themselves, FAMILY remains the one constant. There may be days when we find ourselves reminiscing about the past, or dreaming of the future, but in the end, our most precious memories will be of those when we stayed in the moment with our loved ones.

Moving On

Benedir (Ben Reyna)

Hard days, months, and years have passed.
Days we managed to survive. Months that broke us, and delays that wore us down.
Years of enduring a call to purpose that only you can hear, in pursuit of peace of mind.

We are used to the hard part now, can we fly further on broken wings? With all we've been through, we deserve better days. It is imperative we move on.

If only it was so simple to carve out the moldy part of the fruit in order to save it, it might also still be possible to enjoy the fruit of Filipino's labor for freedom, land, and justice.
